When George Custodi re-discovered in 2017 the recordings of his maternal grandfather, Professore Giovanni Moscatelli, some fifty years after they were recorded in 1967, he had an idea.
Why not convert the 7" reel tapes to CD, and remaster the music? Prof. Moscatelli, a graduate of the Naples Conservatory in Italy, had already passed away some twenty years earlier, but George wanted to make the music available to his extended family on a current, digital medium. After that was accomplished, George had another idea. His son, Stefan Custodi, an excellent professional bassist and string instruments musician, could "jam" with his great grandfather, Prof. Moscatelli, using modern technology to dub Stefan's music onto the professor's digital tracks. In effect, Stefan would be accompanying his great grandfather musically, on the same track.
George asked his son to take on the project, who enthusiastically accepted it, and called it The Moscatelli Project - a recording of music by two musicians, great grandfather and great grandson, playing together some fifty four years apart.
The Moscatelli Project could have been much greater in scope, but studio costs and limited time kept the project small, but nonetheless significant.
The resulting music by two musicians fifty years, and four generations apart, is now available as a free download.
